Public Land Lessons-#5 : If It’s Easy, It’s Educated

Deer Learn Faster Than Hunters

Public land deer don’t get old by being dumb. They learn which paths feel safe and which ones smell like people. Easy access creates educated deer. I also spray down my boots with cover scent before leaving my vehicle. Another thing is I try not to touch any branches on my way in, unless it's unavoidable? Another thing is to not move logs or branches off trails, deer notice changes and might change their patterns. Those are easy things you can do/ or not do???🤔

Hard Is Relative

Hard might mean thick. Steep. Wet. Or just inconvenient. Most hunters quit before those spots even get interesting. Try pushing on just a little bit farther. Sometimes the grass is greener on the other side(of the forest that is)?

Comfort Costs You

If you’re comfortable, so is everyone else.

Final Thoughts:

I stopped chasing easy sits and started chasing overlooked ones. Things changed fast. My biggest obstacle right now is the noise my chainsaw makes while blazing a trail to my tree…🤔 Feel free to leave comments below my fellow DIY'ers. Stay safe out there.

Sometimes the hardest path leads to the best outcome…
